The love for your baby is so strong that it becomes a driving force behind every decision you make. You find yourself constantly worrying about their safety, health, and happiness. Their laughter brings unadulterated joy to your life, while their tears evoke an immediate desire to comfort and protect them at all costs.

The Journey of Love: From Conception to Parenthood

The journey of love starts long before your baby is even born. It begins with the exhilarating moments when you discover you are pregnant. From that moment, your heart fills with an overwhelming sense of love and anticipation. Throughout the nine months of pregnancy, you bond with your baby, cherishing every flutter and kick felt from within.

Then comes the day of birth, when your love for your baby reaches new heights. The first time you see their tiny face, hear their cries, and hold them in your arms, your heart melts with admiration and love. It is a beautiful moment that marks the beginning of a lifelong connection.

Nurturing the Love Bond

To nurture the love bond between parent and child, it is essential to provide a nurturing and loving environment. This includes offering unconditional love, care, and support to your baby as they grow. It involves being present, attentive, and responsive to their needs, ensuring their emotional and physical well-being.

Creating a secure attachment with your baby encourages healthy social, emotional, and cognitive development. By showering your little one with affection, speaking to them in gentle and loving tones, and being emotionally available, you are laying the foundations for a lifetime filled with love and trust.

The Power of Love on Development

Love plays a crucial role in a child's overall development. Studies have shown that children who receive love and affection from their parents experience improved cognitive skills, emotional well-being, and social abilities. Love provides them with a secure base from which to explore the world, fostering confidence and resilience.

When children feel loved and cherished, they develop a positive self-image and are more likely to form healthy relationships later in life. Love enables them to handle stress better, as they have the assurance that a loving and supportive presence is always there for them.

Cherishing Every Moment of Parenthood

The journey of parenthood is filled with countless moments that make you fall even deeper in love with your child. From their first smile and their first word to their first steps and beyond, each milestone brings immeasurable joy and pride.

As your baby grows into a toddler, a child, and eventually an adult, your love only deepens. It evolves alongside them, adapting to their changing needs. The bond you share remains unbreakable as you continue to support, guide, and love them unconditionally.

In

The love between a parent and their child is a force that words cannot fully capture. It is undeniably one of the greatest and most profound forms of love that exists. From the moment of conception to your child's first steps, and throughout their entire journey, the love you have for your baby is an extraordinary and enduring connection that shapes both of your lives forever.

So, do you love your baby? Absolutely, with a love so deep that it surpasses any other love you have known. It is a love that brings immense joy, fulfillment, and purpose to your life. Cherish every moment and watch as your love bond grows stronger, creating a world where your baby feels safe, loved, and cherished every single day.

“I Do Love My Baby: Stories of Mothers with Addiction and Recovery” is a collection of original stories told to the authors by pregnant or parenting mothers directly affected by substance use. The book was developed to be read by any individual to promote a new understanding of what has become an international epidemic of substance use from the experiences of mothers. The mothers who told their stories represent grandmothers, pregnant women, mothers of infants, mothers of older children and one kinship foster mother. Kinship is when a child is placed with a relative of the mother to be a foster parent.

The initiation of substance use varied from prescribed substances that eventually became misused, to experimentation with substances. The common thread of the stories was concern for their infants and children that consistently acted as a motivator for the women’s recovery. The details of the experiences of mothers with addiction underscore opportunities for society and social service systems to re-evaluate approaches to all persons with substance use disorders to prevent the stigma and judgement that is depicted in the stories.

The stories demonstrate examples of family history of substance misuse. Past and present trauma is a common occurrence in the stories, with the mothers identifying substance use as part of the way they coped with prior tragedy.

Consistently in the stories, when positive social supports were present, the mothers were more likely to be seeking or participating in recovery. The theme of positive social support is contrary to a common notion that a person needs to “hit rock bottom” to seek recovery or that “tough love” is required to encourage recovery.

At the end of each chapter is a list of reflection questions that are based on the story themes. The opportunity to reflect on the story themes is offered to assist the reader to consider how their personal views may evolve. The reader will also be able to reflect on societal approaches to families affected by substance use disorder and identify areas that need further development. During reflection, discovery of ways to advocate for the mothers and families may become known to the reader. Advocacy may include encouraging others to read this book to change attitudes, beliefs and knowledge that are based on stigma and judgement.

The majority of the proceeds of the book are being donated to support research in areas that affect pregnant or parenting mothers with substance use disorder or their infants and children.
